There are a few common reasons why people invest in portable BBQ grills.
Most of the time they’re looking for a grill to bring tailgating, camping, or just something that’s easy to transport (going to the cottage, heading to college, and so on).
I have outline 3 of the best portable grills below and they each offer something a bit different. I’ve personally used all of these over the years, and can’t recommend one over the other.
They’re all portable, but they do have some different features. So I’ll highlight these and hopefully provide you with enough information to help you decide.
Weber Smokey Joe
The Weber Smokey Joe is one of my favorite portable grills, and I even rate it as one of the best charcoal grills. So keep in mind this is a charcoal grill, not a gas grill.
As you may have noticed, I recommend Weber products a lot on this website. The reason is that they’re so well made. This has received thousands of positive reviews from customers located all over the world.
Not only is is created by a super high quality company, it also has some great features. It’s very well built so can handle being transported around, and it’s 14 inches in diameter. This will allow you to easily cook 6 burgers at once.
If you want even more grilling space I would recommend you upgrade to the Jumbo Joe which is 18 inches in diameter. Same great features, but more grilling space.
Due to the tripod type of design, you can set it on the ground, or on any type of table and start grilling. It’s one of the best portable grills out there in my opinion, and it’s priced very well.
Cuisinart Petit Gourmet
The Cuisinart Petit Gourmet is another popular recommendation to consider.
This is a portable gas grill, where the Weber above is a charcoal grill. What this means is you will need to have a source of propane.
You can either hook up a hose to a standard size propane tank, but if you’re buying one of these for its portability, you’ll want to get a few small 16.4 oz tanks.
These are sold separately, however you can pick them up at most stores like WalMart and HomeDepot. They’re not expensive, so it’s always recommended to have 2 just in case.
You can expect to cook up 8 burgers max on this grill, and you’ll be able to pull the cover down while cooking these burgers.
What’s great about this grill is that it’s super easy to operate, it heats up fast, and it’s extremely portable. After you clean it up, which is very easy to do, you can fold it up and tranport it very easily.
If you don’t want to mess around with charcoal, this is the best portable gas grill out there.
Coleman Road Trip
The great thing about the Coleman Road Trip grill is that it’s portable, but also comes with a built in stand.
You don’t need to worry about placing this on a separate table or putting it on the ground as it comes with a collapsible stand and wheels.
If you’re going to do any tailgating this is probably one of the better choices. Depending on where you area you might not have access to a table and this is when this unit comes in handy.
The grill itself is very powerful and can easily cook enough food for 3 to 4 people. Many consumers have stated that food cooks very fast on this grill, so you might want to keep that in mind and ease into using the high settings.
